Dave Farris, Campus Pastor
College: Radford University
Seminary: Cincinnati Bible Seminary
After serving as a middle/high school youth pastor for 12 years & attending seminary in Cincinnati, Dave and his family returned back to his home state of Virginia.
He was brought on at Northstar Church in Blacksburg to serve in a variety of staff roles as the church went through several growth spurts. Eventually, the call that drove the Farris family back to Virginia in the first place became undeniably clear.
It really just got to the point where we (Mandy and I) could not avoid this step of faith any longer.
Dave, his wife Mandy, and their 3 children (Jeremiah, Thomas, & Caroline) started praying through what a new church would look like in a rural county that already had over 100 churches in existence.
Northstar Church Pulaski began meeting weekly on Sunday September 11, 2013!
Mandy, also a Pulaski native, currently works at the Carilion Clinic in Blacksburg as a registered nurse. She and Dave were married in 2002. Jeremiah (12) loves to play basketball and disc golf as well as watch any show involving Bear Grylls. Thomas (8) is a Lego Master as well as being an avid soccer player. Both boys adore their baby sister Caroline (3), who can already hold her own against her big brothers. The entire family loves to camp and spend time in the outdoors!
Saera Alley, Children’s Ministry
Saera is getting her degree in Early Childhood Education and is an active member of Sigma Alpha Omega Christian sorority. She got to know Jesus through her grandmother and at Dublin Church of God when she was young, but her relationship with Christ truly flourished in college as she started attending Newbern Community Christian Church. This is where she first felt God calling her to Children’s Ministry. She was a Sunday School teacher there and interned in the Children’s Ministry for a summer. Now, at Northstar Pulaski, she is so excited to continue to work with children and to be there for them in their walk with Christ.
Saera likes to paint, watch movies, and spend time with family and friends.
Adam Parker, Youth Ministry
Hailing from Northeast North Carolina Adam grew up in a small town near the Outer Banks. His relationship with the Lord grew throughout high school and into college at Virginia Tech with his campus ministry. Adam had his first taste of youth ministry during his college years at Virginia Tech; working with a team of dedicated volunteers at a local church in Pulaski County. He graduated from Virginia Tech in Civil Engineering in 2011. He’s currently a Project Manager for an engineering firm in the New River Valley.
Adam met Dave and Mandy in 2012 through a mutual acquaintance and it was a match made in Heaven when they bonded over the Carolina Tarheels during lunch one Sunday. The rest is history. Adam instantly fell in love with the vision that Dave and Mandy desired for a church in Pulaski. He became a member of Northstar in the fall of 2012. It was through Northstar that Adam met his “smokin’ hot” wife Meghan at a Halloween block party in Pulaski. Being a local mountain gal, Adam instantly fell for Meghan. They were married 2 years later in 2014. The Lord has refined and sharpened each of them drawing them closer to Him and closer to each other. They are over-the-moon excited for their newest addition, Merryn Gibson Parker, that arrived on August 12th, 2016.
The perfect date night for Adam and Meghan would be a relaxing night home with their dog Howie, watching The Middle or Survivor. Adam enjoys being outside and playing any sport; volleyball and basketball are his favorite though.
Tyler Snavely, Music Ministry
Tyler’s relationship with Jesus was nurtured by his caring parents and through involvement in the local Church. He taught himself how to play guitar by ear when he was 9 years old and started leading worship when he was 14. Tyler continues to develop his passion for meaningful worship that God has placed on his heart. Tyler’s main instruments are acoustic and electric guitar, but he also plays bass, piano, drums, and any other instrument he can get his hands on.

He met Dave when he was asked to help lead worship at their Worship at the Lake services and immediately valued the vision for Northstar. Tyler loves being a part of a body of believers that engages in a culture of sincere worship. He works at Virginia Tech as a network technician, but he has the ultimate goal of full time ministry as a worship leader and is currently earning his ministry degree online from Johnson University. His wife Annie Kate is a North Carolina native whom he met while visiting a friend’s church in NC when they were only 16. After three years of dating they were married in 2014 and since then they have been so excited to see where the Lord leads them together in ministry.
