…in the community

circle be frontDon’t Go To Church, BE THE CHURCH is our ministry philosophy at Northstar.  This simply means we want to be intentional when it comes sharing the Gospel.  From the beginning, we wanted to partner with local organizations that would provide opportunities for us to invest in people with the hope of sharing with them the hope that is found in Jesus Christ.  Here are several that we have ongoing relationships with:

We have an ongoing partnership with the Meadowview Apartment complex in Pulaski.  Our vision is to have a consistent presence in the community there to help build relationships with the residents and their families.  Whether it is the annual Movies at the Meadow, a chili cook-off, or a women’s craft night, we try to find creative to connect and interact with our friends at Meadowview.

This simple, yet effective way to invest in our community has grown in popularity over the past couple of years.  Originally, when festivals or multi-day events were happening locally, we approached the organizers about setting up a changing station on site as a resource for families needing to take care of business without using a porta-potty.  In 2015, we set them up for seven different events.  As of 2016, we are being approached by some of these same organizations to set them up again.

Our prayer is that this can continue to be an easy way to show the community we care about the families!

Bags of Joy — each Christmas both Northstar campuses (Blacksburg & Pulaski) support local foster children by filling Bags of Joy and distributing them through the Department of Social Services.  The Bag of Joy ministry is another simple way to share the love of Jesus by providing foster children with a little extra during a season when we, as Christ-followers, remember the greatest gift we could ever hope for.

Community Bags of Joy — as another way to bless our community, we partner with other local churches and businesses for a food, toy, & used clothing drive that supports local non-profit organizations during the holidays.  In 2015, 150 bags were collected and given to The Solomon’s Closet food pantry, The Pulaski Christmas Store, and New River Community Action.

GO PULASKI logo fullIn 2016, Northstar Pulaski will be collaborating with multiple churches across the county for a day of service.  In an effort to:

  • unite churches together
  • mobilize folks within our churches
  • connect with the community at large

We are hoping to demonstrate the love of Jesus by investing time and energy while giving back to our community.  GO PC is an effort not only see THE Church rising up together, but to see a love for our neighbor in a tangible way.
