Happy Day

This is Amazing Grace

Why do we celebrate Easter?

Why did Jesus have to die?

How do you think people felt when they saw Jesus was alive?

What do we have to do to have eternal life with Jesus?

Matthew 28:5-6

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

  1. Easter Sunrise— In cups, mix some water with food coloring. Make several “sunrise” color choices. Give your child a coffee filter folded or cut in half. Allow them to use droppers to put the color on their coffee filter. Once the coffee filters are dry, glue it to construction paper with the flat edge of the coffee filter lining up with the edge of the paper. Write “He is risen!” on the top of the papers.
  2. Resurrection Rolls— Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Allow children to dip a marshmallow into melted butter then roll in the cinnamon sugar. Allow them to wrap the marshmallow in a crescent roll, sealing all of the edges tightly. Bake for about 12 minutes or until golden brown on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet. Move onto the story while you wait for the rolls to bake and cool. When the rolls are finished let them cool for a few minutes then reveal the empty tomb.
  3. Read the Easter Story as a family throughout the week
    • Matthew 26-28
    • Mark 14-16
    • Luke 22-24
    • John 17-20
  1. Easter Egg Toss— Gather some Easter eggs and a basket!
    • For older kids: Ask questions about the Easter story. If they get it right, they get to try to toss an egg into the basket.
          • Questions:
              • What did Jesus and his disciples eat at the last supper?
              • What did Judas get for turning Jesus in?
              • Who wanted to kill Jesus?
              • Why did the people want to kill Jesus?
              • What was Jesus’ crown made of?
              • How did the people kill Jesus?
              • What did the sign above Jesus’ head say?
              • What did they give Jesus to drink while he was on the cross?
              • What did they use to wrap Jesus’ body in?
              • Whose tomb did they bury Jesus in?
              • How many days passed before the tomb was found empty?
              • Why did Jesus raise from the dead?
              • Which disciple betrayed Jesus?
              • What did Jesus say the bread that he and his disciples ate represented?
              • What did Jesus say the wine that he and his disciples drank represented?
              • Who was the governor that the people took Jesus to?
              • What did they close the tomb with?
              • Where did they take Jesus to crucify him?
              • How many other people were being crucified beside Jesus?
              • What was the last thing Jesus said before he died?
              • Why do we celebrate Easter?
