We define a disciple as someone who is pursuing Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and BEing on the mission of Jesus.
Love comes from God.  Love was modeled by God.  Love is commanded.  Not the love for football or beach vacations.  The original Greek word for love followers of Jesus are to have toward Him and our neighbor is agapē,

Biblical agapē love is the love of choice, the love of serving with humility, the highest kind of love, the noblest kind of devotion, the love of the will (intentional, a conscious choice) and not motivated by superficial appearance, emotional attraction, or sentimental relationship. Agapē is not based on pleasant emotions or good feelings that might result from a physical attraction or a familial bond.  Agapē chooses as an act of self-sacrifice to serve the recipient. From all of the descriptions of agapē love, it is clear in scripture that true agapē love is a sure mark of salvation.
"7 Beloved, let’s love one another; for love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 By this the love of God was revealed in us, that God has sent His only Son into the world so that we may live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." --  1 John 4:7
