Our Story

Our story: the beginning

The journey of Northstar Pulaski began in the summer of 2012, when a small group of families and friends began meeting to pray and dream about what it would like to not simply GO to church, but to BE the Church in Pulaski County and beyond.

This small group continued to grow in number and unity throughout the summer and into the fall.  The first official Sunday morning worship gathering happened in Critzer Elementary School on December 16, 2012.

We "officially launched" our weekly Worship Gatherings on Sunday September 8, 2013.

In 2017, we transitioned from the 'music room' to half of the Critzer gym, then to half of the YMCA gym, and then expanded to the entire YMCA gym within 6 months to accommodate growth.

"If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
2 Chronicles 7:14

Our story: the pivot

Like every other local church in the world, when COVID shut everything down in 2020, we scurried to get everything digitalized and accessible online.

Within 2 months, our leadership began sensing a deeply needed shift in how we functioned.  We began praying and fasting, seeking wise counsel from across the country, and even reaching out to international missionary partners.

In November 2020, as a faithful response to this season of seeking God's direction, we made a bold decision and pivoted to a more decentralized movement made up of Micro Churches.  Although our original prayers and hopes to BE the Church remain the same, we have doubled down on this vision with a high priority on equipping and mobilizing people to PURSUE JESUS, to LIVE ON the MISSION of Jesus, and IN COMMUNITY.

"And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,"
Ephesians 4:11-13

Our story: PURSUING JESUS

We define a follower of Jesus (i.e. disciple) as someone who is pursuing Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and living on the mission of Jesus

Our desire has always been for God to continue drawing people in, opening their eyes and hearts to a life altering belief in Him through the Good News of His Son Jesus Christ.  To this day, He continues graciously demonstrating His love and grace by faithfully drawing others into the lifelong journey of pursuing Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit.

"If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."
Matthew 16:24–25

Our story: LIVING ON MISSION

It is impossible to pursue and become like Jesus without embracing and living like He did, on a mission of love and sacrifice to offer hope, life in its fullest, and eternal salvation for those who truly believed in it.

The last thing Jesus said on earth to His followers was to GO and make disciples (i.e. more followers), baptizing and teaching them to live out all that He had told them.  Disciple making happens at the speed of relationship.

Living on mission is the sacrificial desire to tangibly express the love of Jesus through investing in relationships.

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19–20
